Pageant Site
This new puppet spectacle by North Barn Theatre, created by longtime Pageant collaborators Laura Stinson and Ian McFarlane, tells the story of a mythical creature who brings new growth and change to a world in ruin. Drawing on tropes from the myth of Perseus and Medusa, it flips and scrambles the telling into a celebration of the antihero.
The show features a cast of puppet critters — among them a talking mouse, a two-dimensional king, a guiding butterfly, and a sneaky pigeon.
While not made specifically for children, the show's vivid sounds and imagery captivate audiences of all ages.
Runs approximately 50 minutes.
In the event of rain, the performance will be moved to Cymbria Lions Club (2184 Church Rd, Rustico)

Natural Weaving with Rilla Marshall
Rilla Marshall is a textile artist based in Belfast, PEI, whose handwoven work explores transitional spaces and the seasonal cycles of our coastal environment, often using plant materials foraged from her immediate surroundings. In this hands-on activity, participants will learn the basics of weaving using plant materials collected from the PEI landscape. Working on a large frame loom, we'll weave stems, sticks, grasses, and leaves into a tapestry of pattern and texture made of island plant life. Rilla will also share a tactile show-and-tell of her textile explorations with foraged materials.
More than just bogs, PEI's wetlands serve a critical ecological role in sustaining our environment. Join us for a thorough discussion about the diversity and vital importance of our wetlands, both to the species who live there and to the health of the groundwater we rely on. The topic is inspired by the rapid education River Clyde Arts needed as we settled onto our new Pageant site this year. The property features a slender stream, and with the guidance of watershed experts, we are learning how to be good stewards of this little wetland.

Don Maynard
In 2017 Don Maynard completed a 35 year career as a fisheries scientist and an environmental assessment practitioner. He then started an independent environmental consulting company, Granville Ridge Consulting, that has leaned towards environmental permitting and biological surveys. Don reconnected to earlier experiences in wetland ecology and now conducts independent wetland delineation surveys on PEI and the Maritime provinces. Don is in North Granville where he is a steward of managed woodlot and organically farmed fields, the property fronts on salt marsh along Stanley River and wetlands on Granville Creek.

Dan McRae
Daniel McRae started working with Macphail Woods in 2008. Since then he has become an expert in botany, data collection, mapping and forest assessment. Daniel is MacPhail’s lead researcher but is involved with many other aspects of the project including ecosystem restoration, sustainable harvesting and nature education.
