Hours & Compensation: $20/hr for 30 hours/week

About the organization & The River Clyde Pageant

RIVER CLYDE ARTS is a non-profit organization that unites local creators, volunteers & professional artists across cultures & creative practices in the making of ambitious, awe-inspiring outdoor theatre and seasonal events. Our central project is our summer production, the River Clyde Pageant (RCP), created and performed in New Glasgow, PEI since 2016.

We aim to nourish our community by presenting a season of programming that celebrates local talent & stories, offers opportunities for creative skills development & mentorship, and values artistic risk and long-term engagement.

The River Clyde Pageant is one of PEI’s most celebrated cultural events. It is a remarkable manifestation of community-engaged performance unlike anything else offered in Atlantic Canada, attracting audiences from across the region and beyond.

Each summer’s River Clyde Pageant rallies hundreds of local creatives, volunteers, professional and emerging artists of all ages in the making of this imaginative outdoor spectacle. The Pageant is performed outdoors, in a field adjacent to the River Clyde in New Glasgow, and features stiltwalkers, large puppets, dancers, a choir, illuminated lanterns, and scenographic elements designed in careful collaboration with our local ecology. We present eight public performances, from Thursday through Sunday on the last weekend of July and the first weekend of August.

A creative/production team of 25 artists, arts workers and mentees come together each summer to lead the creation process for the Pageant, which engages a cast of 85 performers and is further supported by over 200 volunteers. It is an immense collective effort that stands as a gentle confrontation to traditional theatre models that distinguish between professional artists, audiences, and hobbyists. We build performances that reflect the experiences of everyone involved, and that pulse with the spirit of an exuberant, diverse ensemble.
