Ian Mcfarlane

Ian McFarlane is a multifaceted theatre maker whose unique practice of landscape poetics, junkyard theatrics, and performative alchemy explores the unexpected correspondence between the performing body and the performing of the world. Expanding on the disciplines of puppetry, eco-scenography and sensory ethnography as foundations for creative inquiry, Ian creates works for the theatre, outdoor spectacles and community-led projects. Since 2017, Ian has been lead puppet designer and scenographer on The River Clyde Pageant, an outdoor community led spectacle in New Glasgow, PEI, of which he is now co-producer. He has also toured internationally with Bread and Puppet Theater and The Canadian Academy of Mask and Puppetry. Recent projects include The Honey Let's Go Home Opera as part of the 2019 Festival Mondial Des Theatres de Marrionnettes in Charleville-Meziere, France, as well as workshop facilitation at the 2019 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space. Ian holds a MFA in Contemporary Art, Interdisciplinary Studies from Simon Fraser University and currently resides in traditional, acestoral Mi'kmaq territory.
